The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, hosted National Assembly members to a special dinner at the State House Banquet Hall on Friday. She urged lawmakers to pass the Gender Parity Bill, also called the Reserved Seats for Women Bill. She described it as a historic chance to strengthen democracy.
Dialogue on National Development and Security
The dinner included discussions on national challenges. Mrs. Tinubu emphasized collaboration between the legislature and presidency to promote progress. She highlighted security and education issues, especially for girls and boys in the Almajiri system. She called for reforms to provide safe learning environments.
Lawmakers Pledge Support for Governance and Security
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma attended. Akpabio praised Mrs. Tinubu’s initiative and confirmed the Senate’s new measures against kidnapping. Abbas noted that the House recently focused an entire week on national security.
Empowering Women for National Stability
Mrs. Tinubu stressed that women make up nearly half of Nigeria’s population but remain underrepresented in parliament. She explained that empowering women improves governance. She added that it strengthens national stability and inclusion.
Legislative Backing for Gender Equality
Both the Senate and House pledged support for the Gender Parity Bill. The First Lady urged lawmakers to prioritize inclusive policies. She called for measures that ensure women’s meaningful participation in governance.
