The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has rejected claims that Governor Alex Otti favours Arochukwu Local Government Area over Isialangwa South. Instead, the party said the governor delivers projects evenly across the state.
LP State Secretary Reverend Andrew Ohiagba addressed the issue on Monday during a press conference. He described the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated.
“Those people saying the governor isn’t doing enough in Isialangwa South are just trying to blackmail the government. It’s not true,” Ohiagba said.
LP Lists Projects in Isialangwa South
Ohiagba listed several projects in Isialangwa South. These include the Okpualangwa–Umuene road, other key roadworks, the renovation of the local government headquarters, and upgrades to public health centres.
“If you go to Isialangwa South now, you won’t recognise it again,” he said.
He added that the Otti administration applies the same development approach to all local government areas.
Health Centres See Improvements
According to the LP official, primary healthcare centres in Isialangwa South now operate under improved conditions.
“Come to Isialangwa South and see what our health centres look like now,” Ohiagba said. “The way Alex Otti is touching a particular LGA is the same way he is touching Isialangwa South across all sectors.”
Party Cites Statewide Development
Ohiagba also pointed to visible projects in Umuahia, the state capital. He cited works around the Government House, Okpara Square, and other ongoing infrastructure projects.
Ohiagba urged residents to focus on the broader progress across Abia. He described claims of imbalance as discouraging and without factual basis.
LP Backs Otti’s Re-Election
Looking ahead to 2027, Ohiagba announced the party’s support for Governor Otti’s re-election. He said the LP has put structures in place, including a 7,000-member pro-Otti group, to mobilise voters.
“There’s no vacancy for the governorship seat come 2027,” he said. “Abians should collect their PVCs and vote for Otti.”
He also expressed confidence about the next election, urging residents to sustain what he described as the positive changes since Otti assumed office.
