The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured that its candidates will contest the 2027 general election on the party’s platform despite the ongoing leadership crisis.

The assurance was given by the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.

Abdullahi expressed confidence that the party would overcome its current challenges, insisting that the ADC remains committed to participating fully in the next electoral cycle.

“One thing I can guarantee is that we will contest the 2027 election on the ADC platform,” he said.

He noted that while the party is optimistic about the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings, it is also preparing for all possible scenarios.

“We still have confidence in the judiciary and we believe that we have a slam dunk case. If we are granted accelerated hearing and the court sits, we are confident that justice will be done,” he said.

The spokesman added that the party would not disclose its contingency plans but stressed that it would not abandon the political process.

“While we are preparing for the best and hoping for the best, we are also preparing for the worst. What that worst-case scenario is, I will not tell you. But what we will not do is to roll over and die,” he said.

According to him, withdrawing from the process would amount to complicity in undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

“To give up is to be complicit in the destruction of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, and we will not be complicit,” Abdullahi added.

He also dismissed claims that Nigeria’s democracy is functioning optimally simply because multiple political parties exist, arguing that real electoral competition is often limited to a few major parties.

“At the end of the day, even if you have 30 political parties, it comes down to two or three that are viable. When those that can pose a real challenge are weakened, what remains are smaller parties that cannot effectively compete,” he said.

The ADC has been embroiled in internal disputes over its leadership, with multiple factions laying claim to the party’s structure, raising concerns about its preparedness for the 2027 elections.
