Oyo High Court Adjourns PDP Convention Suit

Folahan Adelabi filed a suit against the Peoples Democratic Party, its Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and the Independent National Electoral Commission. He seeks an order that restrains the defendants from disrupting the PDP’s national convention. The convention will take place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.

Last week, Justice Ladiran Akintola granted an ex parte motion. The judge ordered the PDP to proceed with the event. Then he adjourned the motion on notice to Monday, November 10, 2025.

Monday’s Court Proceedings

On Monday the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan heard arguments from both sides. Lawyers presented their positions clearly. However the court restricted access. Security operatives blocked journalists from entering the courtroom.

Justice Akintola listened attentively. He urged all parties to submit necessary documents quickly. This step ensures the case moves forward without delays.

Reasons for the Adjournment

The judge adjourned the hearing to Wednesday, November 12, 2025. He cited the need for complete filings from both sides. This allows time for effective preparation.

Parties must adhere to the PDP’s guidelines and timetable. The court emphasized strict compliance. Consequently the adjournment promotes fairness in the process.

Implications for the PDP Convention

This decision keeps the convention on track for now. However a conflicting ruling from Abuja’s Federal High Court stopped the event earlier. Nyesom Wike dismissed the Oyo ruling and stressed the Abuja judgment’s priority.

PDP leaders must navigate these legal hurdles. The outcome on Wednesday could decide the convention’s fate. Stakeholders watch closely as tensions rise within the party.

In summary the court balances urgency with due process. This approach protects democratic practices in the PDP.
