The Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed the death of Bayelsa Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed on Thursday at the Government House in Yenagoa. The party said the news shocked members and further described him as a loyal and principled leader who shaped politics in the state.
PDP Issues Emotional Statement on Ewhrudjakpo’s Passing
National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong announced the development in a statement on Thursday. He said the National Working Committee, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, felt deep grief over the loss. Moreover, Ememobong praised Ewhrudjakpo as a “trusted, faithful party man” who lived by conviction and integrity.
He added that the late deputy governor practised politics with principle rather than convenience and held firmly to those values until his final moments.
Condolences Pour In for Bayelsa Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo
The PDP extended condolences to the government and people of Bayelsa State. Furthermore, the party called his death an “irreparable loss” to the state and to members who admired his sincerity.
Ememobong said the party would continue to honour Ewhrudjakpo’s contributions to governance and party growth. He also prayed for strength for the family and comfort for those mourning him.
Ewhrudjakpo’s Legacy in Bayelsa Politics
Ewhrudjakpo was born on September 5, 1965. He served as Deputy Governor under Governor Douye Diri from 2020 until his death. Before that, he represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly from 2019 to 2020.
His death creates a major vacuum in the PDP. Many Bayelsa stakeholders describe him as a leader who stayed consistent, disciplined and committed to the state’s development.
