PDP Petitions IGP Over Violent Invasion of National Secretariat

PDP petitions IGP over invasion of national secretariat

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has petitioned Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun over a violent invasion of its National Secretariat in Abuja. The party claimed that the assault was led by suspended National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and his supporters.

PDP says invasion left staff injured

In the petition, signed by National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, the PDP said the incident occurred on Monday, November 3, 2025. According to the party, the attackers stormed the secretariat, broke into offices, and disrupted official work.

“They assaulted our staff, fired tear gas, and caused chaos inside the building,” the petition stated. One female employee reportedly fainted after inhaling gas but later regained consciousness. Three other staff—Terna Tergba, Cecilia Ukwayi, and Innocent Ezekiel—sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Party questions police involvement

The PDP also questioned the FCT Commissioner of Police for deploying security officers to its secretariat without notifying the National Chairman. The party said this action raised concerns about police neutrality.

“This assault on a major opposition party threatens democracy,” the petition read. “Nigeria is under global observation, and such acts could damage the country’s image.”

Call for investigation and justice

The PDP urged the IGP to investigate the incident, identify the attackers, and prosecute everyone involved. It also asked the police to protect all political institutions and prevent similar events in the future.

The petition included photos and videos to support its claims. Meanwhile, security experts have called for dialogue to ease rising political tensions across the country.
