Plateau State Governor Mutfwang Defects From PDP to APC

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection marks a major political shift in Plateau State. It also signals a broader realignment in the North-Central region.

The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, announced the development on Thursday. He spoke during the party’s National Caucus Meeting in Abuja.

The meeting took place at the State House Conference Centre inside the Presidential Villa.

APC Announces Mutfwang Defection at Caucus Meeting

Yilwatda described the governor’s defection as a significant boost to the ruling party.

“With the defection of Governor Mutfwang, the entire North-Central region is now governed by the APC,” he told party leaders.

He said the move reflected growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and direction.

According to him, the party continues to expand its influence across strategic regions.

Political observers say the development could weaken the PDP’s structure in Plateau State.

They also believe it may affect future electoral calculations in the zone.

APC Unveils Nationwide Electronic Registration

At the same meeting, the APC leadership announced the activation of its electronic membership registration system.

Yilwatda said the digital registration would run nationwide. He fixed January 30, 2026, as the deadline.

According to him, the exercise aims to improve transparency and strengthen internal democracy.

It also seeks to enhance data integrity across party structures.

“We have conducted training at the state, zonal and local government levels in most states,” he said.

“I urge all stakeholders to support the nationwide rollout of this important initiative,” Yilwatda added.

He assured new members of equal rights within the party.

“This exercise will run from now until January 30. All members must be registered and prepared for the congresses ahead,” he said.

Tinubu, Shettima Attend APC Caucus Meeting

The high-level meeting attracted top figures within the party.

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the session.

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was also present.

APC governors, former governors, lawmakers, and party executives joined the meeting.

Party leaders said Mutfwang’s defection signals a new phase of consolidation.

They also said internal reforms would strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
