Plateau Governor Mutfwang Resigns From PDP, Set to Join APC

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, signalling a significant political shift in the state.

He announced the decision in a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, which he personally addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area. Ward officials acknowledged receipt of the letter the following day.

Governor Appreciates PDP for Political Platform

In the letter, Mutfwang thanked the PDP for giving him the opportunity to participate actively in Nigeria’s democratic process. He also expressed appreciation to party leaders, members, and supporters for their trust and cooperation over the years.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect,” the governor stated. He added that the encouragement he received shaped his political journey within the party.

Mutfwang Explains Reason for Exit

Explaining his decision, Mutfwang said current political realities influenced his move. He explained that his commitment to purposeful leadership and effective service delivery now demands a new political direction.

“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” he said. He concluded the letter by offering assurances of his highest regards.

Governor Expected to Join APC

Following his resignation, strong indications suggest that Mutfwang plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Political observers believe the move could alter the balance of power in Plateau State.

Earlier, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda said at an event at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that the governor intended to defect. Although Mutfwang has not formally announced his next step, expectations of an APC move continue to grow.
