Police Rescue Kidnap Victim and Foil Robbery in Ebonyi

Police rescue operation in Ebonyi state

The Ebonyi State Police Command has secured a major win in its fight against crime after a successful police rescue operation and a rapid response to an armed robbery. The two incidents took place on November 12 and 13 and resulted in one suspect neutralised and a kidnap victim freed.

On November 12, a patrol team heard gunshots and distress screams along the Ehamufu–Nkalagu Road in Ishielu LGA. The officers arrived at the scene and met armed men attacking a motorcyclist, identified as Ali Solomon. The robbers fired at the officers, but the team returned fire. One suspect fell during the exchange, and the police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Police Rescue Kidnapped Man from Hotel Toilet

The following day, officers received intelligence about a kidnapping in the Ezzangbo area of Ohaukwu LGA. A gang had abducted Thank-God Obasi, tied him up, and left him inside a hotel toilet while demanding ₦5 million in ransom.

Through coordinated intelligence efforts, the police tracked the location and freed Obasi during a swift police rescue operation. Officers arrested three suspects — Uchenna Ogbozuru, Ebuka Ejiogu, and Chizoba Idenyi Ogwa — at the scene. They now remain in custody, and the command plans to prosecute them after investigation.

Spokesman SP Joshua Ukandu praised the teams for their bravery. He also reaffirmed the commissioner’s commitment to keeping Ebonyi safe and making sure criminals find no hiding place in the state.
