Rufai Oseni, broadcaster and co-host on Arise Television, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for meeting victims of the Jos attack at the airport instead of visiting affected communities.
Oseni spoke on Friday during Arise Television’s morning programme, where he described the president’s approach as insensitive.
He faulted Tinubu for not going into Jos town or visiting the scene of the attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, where dozens were killed.
“What level of insensitivity is this? The president went to Jos but stayed at the airport,” he said.
Oseni said Tinubu, as the country’s number one citizen, had the security capacity to visit victims directly.
“You are there to commiserate, yet you don’t go to where the incident happened,” he said.
He also criticised what he described as a pattern of response by the president in handling tragedies.
“We thought it was a one-off before, but now it is a pattern,” he said.
Oseni questioned the president’s expression of empathy towards victims, saying it did not reflect the reality of their pain.
“You cannot say you understand the pain of a woman holding her dead child. You don’t understand it,” he said.
He urged leaders to show more empathy and presence in times of national tragedy.
“What Nigerians need is empathy. Stay with the people and make your presence felt,” he said.
