According to officials, the attacks resulted in one confirmed death and left 15 others injured.
In a staggering escalation, Russia unleashed one of the largest aerial assaults of the year on Ukraine—launching 574 attack drones and 40 missiles overnight, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The barrage struck mostly across western Ukraine, far from the eastern front lines.
The consequences were devastating: at least one civilian lost their life, while 15 others sustained injuries. Among the damaged infrastructure, a U.S.-owned electronics manufacturing plant in Mukachevo—deep in western Ukraine—was critically hit, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. He emphasized that the facility was entirely civilian in purpose, producing household electronics, not military equipment.
Russia launches largest missile attack
This massive strike, ranked as Russia’s third-largest drone offensive of the year and the eighth-largest missile attack, came amid renewed diplomatic efforts. Western leaders, especially the U.S., are pushing for peace talks to end the war triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the onslaught, deploring it as evidence that “nothing is changing at all.” He used the strike to urge the international community to escalate pressure—with stricter sanctions and tariffs—on Moscow, especially given Russia’s continued refusal to engage in meaningful peace negotiations.
