Sanwo-Olu Swears In Obasa’s Son as New Agege LG Chairman

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially sworn in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of the Agege Local Government on Monday, 22nd of December, 2025. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted at the Lagos House located in Ikeja.

The Swearing-In Ceremony

Officials gathered for the ceremony, which also included the inauguration of Toyin Adejimiwa as a Permanent Secretary. Retired permanent secretaries attended the occasion.

They showed support for the new leaders. Sanwo-Olu administered the oath to Obasa, who is the son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudasiru Obasa.

Governor’s Call to Action

Sanwo-Olu urged Obasa to prioritize grassroots development. He emphasized alignment with the state’s agenda. Another point raised by the governor was the importance of visible leadership. The governor warned against actions that will bring about division. For this reason, Obasa should focus on good governance.

Background of the New Chairman

Obasa previously served as acting chairman. He stepped up after former Chairman Tunde Azeez resigned due to health issues in November. Councillors unanimously confirmed Obasa during a plenary session. Earlier, Obasa expressed interest in the 2025 local elections but faced initial opposition.

In response, Obasa thanked the governor for the trust. He pledged to uphold public service values. Similarly Adejimiwa expressed gratitude and commitment. Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in their abilities. He noted that discipline drives progress in Lagos.
