Seiko launches 4 new Selection S chronographs with sapphire crystals, including an all-black variant

Seiko Japan has scheduled the release of four Selection S Series solar chronographs for March 26, 2026. The SBPY181, SBPY183, SBPY185, and SBPY187 utilize the V175 movement. Featuring sapphire crystals with “super clear” coating and 10-bar water resistance.

Seiko has officially declared the addition of four new chronograph references to its Selection S Series. This includes the SBPY181 (brown dial), SBPY183 (blue dial), SBPY185 (black dial), and SBPY187 (all-black hard coating). These models are similar in terms of a standardized case of 42.2 mm stainless steel. Also with a case thickness of 12.2 mm and the lug-to-lug distance is 48.3 mm. The line is largely a technical update of the S Series lineup, as the models employ more premium-grade material selections, which classifies these models into the entry-to-mid-range market.

The fundamental hardware is the Seiko V175 solar-quartz caliber. This maintains an accuracy of within 15s per month and offers users a six-month power supply on a full charge. The movement has a 60 minute chronograph (1/5 seconds steps), a 24 hour sub-dial and a date display at 4:30. These models also have sapphire crystals with a super clear anti-reflective coating. An option usually found in more costly Prospex lines to provide superior visibility.

The SBPY187 is the top model in this series. It has a complete black hard finish on the case and bracelet and this gives you more surface scratch resistance. The four models are all antimagnetic resistant and Lumibrite is used to index low-light areas. Although these are mechanically identical to the previous SBPY167, they bill new dial finishes (and hopefully new availability) to the 2026 season. Prices will not be announced yet, but they will be offered since the 26th of March this year.
