Senate Confirms Idris Olorunnimbe as NCC Board Chairman

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Board. The confirmation followed a screening conducted by the Senate Committee on Communications.

The Senate also approved the appointments of Maryam Bayi (North East), Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa (South West), and Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (South East) as NCC Commissioners.

New Leadership to Drive Innovation

Additionally, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko and Christopher Sandy Okorie from the South-South zone joined the NCC board. They bring diverse experience in governance and business development, which will help shape Nigeria’s telecom future.

The new appointees will work alongside Dr. Aminu Maida (North West), Engineer Abraham Oshadami (North Central), and Rimini H. Makama (North Central), who were previously confirmed as Executive Vice Chairman and Executive Commissioners.

Senate Strengthens Telecom Oversight

According to Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, the NCC’s Head of Public Affairs, the appointments aim to boost effective regulation and encourage technological advancement in the telecommunications industry. She noted that the board’s focus will include better stakeholder engagement and improved consumer protection.

Ukoha added that the fresh leadership marks a major step toward enhancing transparency and innovation in Nigeria’s communications sector.
