Seven Killed in Keffi–Abuja Crash as FRSC Orders Investigation

A vehicle crashed on the Keffi-Abuja Highway at Angwan Jarmi. The accident occurred on February 26, 2026. Seven people died in the crash. No injuries received mention in reports.

The lone vehicle traveled at excessive speed. It lost control and veered into the opposite lane. Commercial motorcyclists became involved in the incident. Meanwhile the crash caused multiple fatalities.

Official Statements

Shehu Mohammed, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, expressed deep sorrow over the event. Mohammed stated: “The incident is painful and devastating, and no loss of life is acceptable on our highways.”

Additionally, Mohammed extended condolences to the families of the victims. He added: “We pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed.” Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, released the statement on behalf of Mohammed.

Ordered Investigation

Mohammed ordered a comprehensive investigation into the crash. The probe included allegations of patrol-related factors. He emphasized: “The Corps will not be hasty in apportioning blame nor dismissive of public concerns.”

Furthermore, Mohammed committed to holding accountable any personnel who acted outside operational standards. He declared: “We reaffirm our commitment to professionalism, fairness, and transparency.”

Aftermath and Response

FRSC teams mobilized for rescue after distress alerts. However tension escalated among the public, including motorcycle operators. This led to a mob attack on the Keffi Unit Command.

The Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army intervened to restore calm. Mohammed commended their swift action. He appealed: “We urge the public to remain calm and allow due process.”

Moreover Mohammed warned that violence against personnel undermines safety efforts. The FRSC assured continued collaboration with stakeholders to prevent future tragedies.
