Shehu Sani, former senator representing Kaduna Central, has criticised Nasir El-Rufai, ex-governor of Kaduna state, over his allegations against Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser (NSA).
El-Rufai had written to Ribadu on Sunday, demanding clarification over the alleged procurement of thallium sulphate by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
He asked the NSA to explain reports that ONSA procured about 10 kilograms of the substance from a supplier in Poland.
However, Sani dismissed the claims. He urged the former governor to face the issues before him instead of “diverting attention.”
“The ex-governor of Kaduna state should focus on the allegations before him and clear his name instead of diverting attention with his purported and phantom claims against the NSA Ribadu,” Sani said.
‘Why Raise It Now?’
Furthermore, Sani questioned the timing of the allegation.
He asked why El-Rufai failed to disclose such a sensitive matter earlier.
“Why the delay in disclosing such sensitive information to the public until when he was invited?” he queried.
According to him, the move appears calculated. He described it as an attempt to shift public focus. Consequently, he urged Nigerians to ignore what he called “antics and deceptions.”
‘Learn to Handle Your Karma’
Beyond the immediate dispute, Sani revisited his personal history with the former governor. He said he and others suffered under El-Rufai’s administration in Kaduna state.
“For those of us whom he once traumatised — our families framed and dragged to the police and the courts in Kaduna — we forgive him,” Sani said.
He added that they endured detention in prisons, police cells, DSS facilities and even military underground cells. Nevertheless, he said they never lost their sense of reasoning.
“If our society continues to pamper and protect past leaders who should be held accountable for their actions while in power, it gives a life and unconditional guarantee to those in power today that they too will be protected after leaving office,” he said.
He urged El-Rufai to confront his challenges directly and “handle his karma with maturity, decorum and faith.”
