Vice President Kashim Shettima has warned opposition figures against challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, such a move amounts to political suicide.
Shettima Speaks at APC NEC Meeting
On Friday, Shettima spoke at the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the meeting, party leaders gathered at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Notably, President Tinubu invited Shettima to address party leaders during the session.
‘A Suicidal Mission’
During his remarks, Shettima dismissed any plan to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
“Only a fool hell-bent on a suicidal path or an outright impostor can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election,” he said.
However, he also acknowledged Nigeria’s democratic system.
As a result, he noted that Nigerians retain the right to contest elections.
Shettima Warns Against Social Media Politics
Furthermore, Shettima cautioned politicians against relying on social media popularity.
According to him, online noise does not win elections.
In addition, he stressed that platforms such as Facebook and X do not decide electoral outcomes.
“Elections are not won by noise or nostalgia,” he said.
Instead, he explained that political success depends on structure and trust.
“Elections are won by coalitions, credibility, and conviction,” he added.
Tinubu’s Experience Strengthens APC
Meanwhile, Shettima said President Tinubu’s political experience gives the ruling party an advantage ahead of 2027.
He explained that the administration relies on lessons from past elections and governance.
“With the experience of our president as our shield and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe that 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility,” he said.
Finally, he expressed confidence in victory.
“And by the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing.”
