Sokoto State Eyes 1.2 Million Children In Four-Day Polio Vaccination Drive

Sokoto State launched the 2026 Polio Immunization Campaign in Kware Local Government Area. Officials targeted 1.2 million children under five during the four-day drive. Health authorities officially launched the campaign on March 7, 2026. Bello Marnona, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care Development, led the flag-off.

Moreover, Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, Commissioner for Health, assured residents of full preparedness. “We have made complete preparations for this campaign. Our teams are ready to reach every eligible child across the state,” Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno said.

Officials Urge Parents To Act

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, Governor of Sokoto State, sent senior officials to represent him at the event. Government officials, health workers, traditional leaders, and partners attended the ceremony.

They called on parents to bring out all children under five. “Parents must ensure every child receives the polio vaccine. This is the only way we can protect our children,” Bello Marnona stated.

Furthermore, vaccination teams immediately began house-to-house activities. They moved through communities to administer the oral polio vaccine.

Campaign Aims For Complete Success

As a result, the teams set out to vaccinate 1.2 million children in four days. Officials emphasized the need for total coverage.

Additionally, all stakeholders issued a joint message. “Together, we can keep polio at zero,” they declared. The four-day immunization campaign continues across all local government areas in Sokoto State.
