Politics

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He made the move ahead of the state’s governorship election in August 2026, where he is expected to seek a second term. Meanwhile, his resignation has sparked political speculation across the state. His spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, announced the resignation on Monday night. Adeleke’s resignation took effect on November 4, 2025. Reason for Adeleke PDP Resignation Adeleke sent a resignation letter to the PDP Chairman for Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde. He explained that the ongoing leadership crisis in the national party prompted his decision. Additionally, he thanked the PDP for giving him the opportunity to serve as Senator for Osun West and as Governor of Osun State. Next Political Move Remains Unclear The governor’s team has not revealed which party he will join next. However, reports suggest Adeleke considered moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly with support from President Bola Tinubu. Nevertheless, the APC leadership in Osun State blocked the plan. Implications for the 2026 Election Adeleke becomes the latest sitting governor to leave the PDP. Also, governors in Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Enugu states recently left the party. Adeleke may now contest the 2026 governorship election under a different political party, but no confirmation has come yet. As a result, political analysts are closely monitoring the situation.
