Ten Residents Abducted in Kano Border Villages by Armed Bandits

Armed bandits abducted ten residents of Tsanyawa Local Government Area in Kano State on Monday night. They launched coordinated attacks on Biresawa and Tsundu villages around 10 p.m., taking five people from each community.

Kabiru Usman, a Biresawa resident whose family members were kidnapped, said the bandits arrived on foot, heavily armed. He explained, “They came with guns and kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife; and two other women.”

Residents tried to resist the attackers but could not match their firepower. Usman added that the community had alerted the police and military after receiving warnings about the gang’s movement. “Before the attack, we called the authorities using the numbers they had provided,” he said.

Appeal for Government Action

Usman urged the government to rescue the abducted residents and strengthen security in the area. However, Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, said the police will verify the incident and release an official statement.

The abductions occurred amid rising bandit activity in Kano border communities. Security sources link the attacks to armed groups relocating from Katsina State following a recent peace pact in Ingawa, Kankia, and Kusada LGAs.

Fear Spreads in Surrounding Communities

Other nearby villages, including Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano, also faced attacks. A Yan Chibi resident said dozens of motorcycle-riding bandits entered their area, fired guns in the air, and abducted mostly women.

Local vigilante groups responded after spotting suspicious individuals. However, the bandits escaped into Katsina State, forcing residents to retreat. Many families now avoid sleeping in their homes at night. The recent attacks in Shanono and Bagwai LGAs have increased fear across the region.
