President Bola Tinubu approved the creation of a new Nigerian Army Training Depot in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. This decision expands military infrastructure in the Southeast region. Consequently Nigeria now has three major depots. The first has operated in Zaria, Kaduna State since 1924. The second gained approval in Osogbo, Osun State in August 2025.
Purpose of the Depot
Authorities aim to decentralize soldier training across all six geopolitical zones. This move addresses growing security challenges nationwide. Furthermore, the depot will train 3,500 additional troops. These soldiers will deploy to combat insurgency, banditry, and terrorism.
Enhanced Features of Training
It espouses advanced technologies in better preparation. The trainees use indoor shooting ranges to enhance their marksmanship skills. Additionally, recruits receive specialized field craft training. This concept has ensured combat-ready forces in various regions.
