Troops Foil ISWAP Attack on Borno Base, Kill Many Fighters

Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully repelled an early morning attack by terrorists of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province on one of its military bases in Borno State. Consequently they forestalled the breach of the Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area. This victory underpins the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region.

The Assault

ISWAP terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the base. They attempted to overrun the facility using two Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices, but the troops were able to identify the threats in good time. Besides, the terrorists had advanced under the cover of darkness. They had come with the notion and motive of causing maximum damage, but they met fierce resistance.

Defensive Actions

Troops neutralized both VBIEDs before reaching the base. They engaged the attackers in a heavy firefight. As a result, several terrorists died on the spot, others with serious injuries fled the scene. Troops used CCTV footage to confirm the outcomes. This quick response ensured no casualties among the soldiers.

Aftermath and Recoveries

Troops recovered AK-47 rifles, ammunition, hand grenades, motorcycles, and communication devices. They also seized medical supplies and combat gear. These items weaken the terrorists’ capabilities.

Ongoing Efforts
