Two Kano Assembly Lawmakers Die Within Hours

The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into mourning following the death of two serving lawmakers, Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who died within hours of each other on Wednesday.

Hon. Ungogo represented the Ungogo Constituency and also chaired the House Committee on Appropriation. His death was first announced by the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam.

“May Allah forgive Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, member representing Ungogo Constituency,” Adam wrote in a post on his verified Facebook page.

Ungogo Collapses at Assembly Complex

Ungogo reportedly collapsed at the assembly complex after a brief illness. He was rushed to a hospital shortly after. However, doctors pronounced him dead soon after arrival.

Barely an hour later, news broke of the death of Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Constituency.

The Director of Media at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed Daneji’s death in a Facebook post.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihirrajiun,” he wrote. “Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji died today, an hour after the death of his colleague.”

Shock and Condolences Trail Deaths

The near-simultaneous deaths shocked lawmakers, government officials, and residents of Kano State. As a result, condolences poured in from across the state and beyond.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin described the losses as irreparable. He prayed for the repose of their souls and strength for their families.

“I mourn the passing of two members of the Kano State House of Assembly,” Jibrin wrote on X. “My heartfelt condolences go to their families, constituents, and the Kano State Government.”

Speaker Describes Loss as Painful

Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, also expressed deep sorrow. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Shawai, he described Ungogo’s death as a huge loss at a critical time.

“The late Hon. Ungogo died while in active service,” the statement said. “He is survived by his wife and children.”

As of press time, authorities had yet to provide full details surrounding the circumstances of the two deaths.
