The University of Jos is set to welcome more than 10,000 athletes from 22 universities for the 27th National Universities Games Association (NUGA) event. Vice Chancellor Prof. Tanko Ishaya announced this during a road walk in Jos on Tuesday to create awareness for the competition. The games will hold from November 6 to 16, 2025.
School and State Fully Prepared
Prof. Ishaya said the university is ready to deliver one of the best NUGA Games in history. Both students and staff are eager to host athletes from across the country. He added that the people of Plateau are excited to receive visitors and showcase their hospitality.
Plateau Declared Safe and Peaceful
The Vice Chancellor assured Nigerians that Plateau is peaceful and safe for visitors. He urged people not to believe negative stories about the state. According to him, the event will show the true spirit of Jos — warm, secure, and welcoming.
Government Support Boosts Preparation
Prof. Ishaya thanked the Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, and the Ministry of Education for supporting the event. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for promoting sports nationwide. In addition, he praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for helping the university prepare. He noted that hosting more than 10,000 visitors would boost Plateau’s local economy.
Games to Promote Peace and Development
Prof. Taye Obateru, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, said the NUGA Games will promote peace and showcase Jos as a vibrant city. He explained that the University of Jos aims to develop sports talents and form partnerships that support education and business.

Dr. Peter Gad, Global President of the University of Jos Alumni Association, said the games would highlight the creativity and strength of Nigerian youths. He added that the competition would drive social and infrastructural growth across Plateau State.
