US Congressman Riley M. Moore met with a top Nigerian delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to address Christian persecution and rising terrorism across Nigeria. The meeting was direct, urgent, and centered on growing global concern for vulnerable Christian communities.
Christian Persecution Takes Center Stage
During the talks, Nigerian officials outlined the serious security challenges posed by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other extremist groups. Congressman Moore responded by stressing that the United States wants stronger cooperation, yet expects Nigeria to show visible effort in protecting Christians who face repeated attacks.
He noted that the US will not ignore continued violence linked to religious identity. Because of this, he urged Nigeria to take stronger steps to defend communities targeted because of their faith.
Call for Stronger US–Nigeria Security Coordination
Moore said improved coordination between both countries could speed up efforts to weaken terrorist networks operating in northern and central Nigeria. He added that better intelligence sharing and joint operations would support Nigeria’s long-term stability.
The Congressman also emphasized that Nigeria must accept US assistance so that both nations can stop the atrocities carried out by extremist groups. With this approach, Moore believes more lives can be saved and displaced families can begin to rebuild.
US Urges Action, Not Promises
Moore insisted on “tangible steps” from Nigeria. According to him, protecting Christians is a moral responsibility and a security imperative. He stated that the US remains committed to helping Nigeria defeat terrorism, but expects accountability and urgent action from Nigerian leaders.
