‘Celebrate with Responsibility’ — Obi Tells Nigerians in Valentine’s Day Message

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has urged Nigerians, especially young people, to celebrate Valentine’s Day with responsibility and a renewed sense of patriotism.

In a message posted on X on February 14, Obi said love must go beyond emotions and translate into sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to what is right.

Love Beyond Emotion

Addressing young Nigerians, the former presidential candidate said St. Valentine symbolises more than romance.

He noted that love represents honesty, compassion, respect, and devotion to the common good.

“This Valentine’s Day, let us celebrate with responsibility,” Obi wrote.

“Love is not just emotion; it is sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to what is right.”

Renew Love for Nigeria

The former Anambra governor called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to the country.

According to him, a nation thrives when citizens nurture it with care and dedication.

He said loving Nigeria means promoting fair elections and rejecting corruption, greed, division, and mediocrity.

Obi added that citizens should support leaders with capacity, commitment, and character.

Patriotism Through Accountability

Furthermore, Obi said patriotism requires citizens to speak up about the country’s challenges while proposing workable solutions.

He emphasised the need to promote justice, competence, transparency, and sustained investment in education and healthcare.

“Where corruption destroys opportunity, integrity restores it; where division breeds conflict, unity fosters progress,” he said.

‘A New Nigeria Is Possible’

Obi concluded by urging Nigerians to embrace love that strengthens families, communities, and the nation.

He expressed optimism that the country can achieve meaningful progress when love is backed by action.

“A new Nigeria is possible when love becomes action,” he said.

He wished Nigerians a happy Valentine’s Day.
