WAFCON 2026: Governor Dapo Abiodun Gifts Super Falcons N50 Million

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has lifted the Super Falcons with a ₦50 million reward ahead of their WAFCON 2026 qualifier against Benin Republic. The governor announced the gift when he received the team at his office in Abeokuta on Monday.

The Falcons will play their second leg at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena on Tuesday. They already lead the tie after a 2–0 victory in Cotonou, with goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.

Governor Abiodun praised the team for their historic 10th WAFCON title in Morocco. He said their success united Nigerians and inspired women across the country. According to him, the Falcons represent more than football — they embody discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

Ogun State’s Plans for Sports Development

Abiodun revealed plans to further develop the MKO Abiola Sports Arena. He said the area would soon include a five-star hotel, cinema, and shopping center. The governor described the team’s return to Abeokuta as proof that Ogun State is becoming a sports hub in Nigeria.

Head coach Justin Madugu thanked the governor for his support and world-class facilities. He said the team always feels at home in Abeokuta. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade also expressed gratitude, promising that the Falcons would continue to make Nigerians proud on and off the field.
