Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and David Mark of undermining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to journalists at the national convention of a PDP faction loyal to him, Wike said the trio laid the foundation for the party’s collapse.
He said their actions at a previous convention venue triggered the party’s internal crisis.
“This was the venue that Atiku Abubakar, David Mark and Tambuwal laid the foundation of the burial of PDP,” he said.
Furthermore, Wike accused the leaders of acting with ulterior motives and weakening the party’s structure.
“They did not want PDP to survive. But God has said man proposes and God disposes,” he said.
He said impunity and disregard for the party’s constitution drove the crisis.
Wike cited the zoning provision in the party’s constitution, which he said leaders ignored.
“Our constitution, particularly section 7C, says every position, elective or appointive, shall be zoned to various regions,” he said.
He explained that zoning promotes unity in a diverse country like Nigeria.
“Nigeria is a complex society with different ethnic groups and religions. The founding fathers ensured zoning to preserve unity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wike said he had pushed for power rotation to the south after former President Muhammadu Buhari completed his tenure.
“I said the next president should come from the south. There was no need for controversy,” he said.
He maintained that the failure to respect zoning deepened divisions within the PDP and worsened its current crisis.
