Wike Dismisses PDP Convention as ‘Social Party’ After Expulsion

Wike spokesperson reacts to PDP expulsion in Ibadan

Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the ongoing PDP national convention in Ibadan as a “social party.” He spoke on Saturday following the expulsion of Wike and 10 other members.

The spokesperson added that the decisions taken at the convention were irrelevant. “They are free to say anything,” he said.

Convention Branded a “Social Party”
Olayinka said the convention attendees had decided to “start dirty December in November.” He noted that “one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths.” Meanwhile, he emphasized that Wike’s faction would continue its political work despite the expulsions.

Expelled Members Include Key PDP Figures
Among those expelled were Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s suspended national secretary, and Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State. Ten other senior members were also removed from the party during the Ibadan event.

Legal Battles Ahead for Wike Faction
In recent months, the Wike-led faction attempted to halt the convention through court action. However, the party secured a high court judgment in Oyo State, allowing the event to proceed. Therefore, the expulsions are expected to spark further legal challenges.

Olayinka concluded that the PDP’s actions should not concern the public. “They went to Ibadan to start their own agenda. We will continue our work and ignore their statements,” he said.

Conclusion
The Wike-led faction remains undeterred despite the expulsions and the heated rhetoric from the Ibadan convention. With ongoing legal battles and political maneuvers, the conflict within the PDP is far from over.
