‘You’ve children at home watching’ — ADC spokesman cautions APC over abusive language

Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as a pattern of abusive and disrespectful political communication.

Abdullahi spoke on Saturday during an appearance on Arise Television, where he responded to comments by Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the APC.

He said the ruling party often resorts to insults instead of engaging in constructive dialogue.

“I wonder why my friend Felix Morka feels the need to speak in that manner,” he said.

Abdullahi added that political discourse in the country has become unnecessarily hostile, accusing the APC of normalising verbal attacks.

“They cannot talk without insulting people. They cannot make their point without abusing others,” he said.

He said such behaviour reflects a broader attitude within the ruling party.

“That is the attitude of this ruling party, from top to bottom,” he said.

The ADC spokesman said opposition figures are often targeted whenever they express views the ruling party disagrees with.

“The moment you say something they don’t like, they go after you, attacking and abusing you,” he said.

He urged political actors to adopt a more civil tone, noting that public figures should be mindful of their influence.

“These are people who have children watching at home. We can keep our conversations more decent without being thuggish about it,” he said.

Abdullahi also defended the ADC’s recent decision to establish international representatives, saying the move was aimed at strengthening engagement rather than provoking political opponents.
