At least 10 people died on Saturday after suspected improvised explosive devices detonated along the Magami–Dansadau road in Zamfara State. The blasts triggered panic among motorists and residents in the area.
Witnesses said armed bandits planted the explosives along the busy highway. The attack targeted vehicles travelling through the corridor.
Eyewitness Recounts Triple Explosion
An eyewitness, Mallam Yunusa, said three explosions rocked different points along the road. He explained that a trailer carrying grains from Magami to Dansadau took the first hit.
Panicked travellers stopped between Maikogo and Mai Aya-Aya villages moments after the blasts. Many abandoned their vehicles and fled for safety.
“The explosions went off one after another,” Yunusa said. “Four people inside the trailer died instantly. A woman who jumped from another vehicle also died while trying to escape.”
Security Operatives Launch Manhunt
Residents described confusion and fear as people ran from the scene. Soon after, security operatives arrived and moved into nearby bushes to chase the attackers.
Police vehicles later flooded the area as officers secured the highway. The operation forced traffic to a standstill.
Police Place Area on Red Alert
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the attack. Police spokesman DSP Yazid Abubakar said officers had placed the area on red alert.
He added that investigators are gathering details and will release an official update soon.
