2027: Kano Governor Yusuf meets Senator Hanga amid APC defection rumours

Senator Hanga

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Friday met with Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Senator Rufai Hanga at his office in Abuja, amid growing speculation over the lawmaker’s political future.

The meeting comes as reports of Hanga’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to gain attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meeting fuels political speculation

Although neither politician disclosed the purpose of the meeting, it comes at a time when discussions about Hanga’s future have intensified.

The senator is reportedly considering leaving the NDC after missing out on the party’s Kano Central senatorial ticket. Reports also claimed he was not picked as the party’s deputy governorship candidate or considered for another key political position.

APC leaders visited Hanga

Earlier this week, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, led a delegation of Kano APC executives to Hanga’s residence.

The visit further fuelled speculation that the senator could be preparing to join the ruling party before the 2027 elections.

However, neither Hanga nor the APC has officially confirmed any defection plans.

Details of meeting remain unclear

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Yusuf and Senator Hanga had not released details of their discussions.

The meeting has nevertheless attracted political attention because of the ongoing realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
