2027: Wike Declares Self Tinubu’s FCT Campaign Commander

Wike Takes Charge of Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign in FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared himself President Bola Tinubu’s campaign field commander in the FCT ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the declaration on Monday at a Rainbow Coalition stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja. He also pledged to coordinate Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Rivers State.

The meeting brought together political leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They discussed a joint strategy to mobilise support for Tinubu and APC candidates.

“For the Presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I will coordinate the FCT and Rivers State,” Wike said.

He added,

“I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned.”

PDP Candidates Back APC Candidates

Wike urged political stakeholders to put party differences aside and work towards their shared goal.

“I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ For the purpose of this election, we are together,” he said.

At the meeting, PDP National Assembly candidates in the FCT also declared support for their APC counterparts. However, Wike clarified that the coalition mainly focused on the presidential election.

He cited the 2024 Edo State governorship election as an example of how political alliances could shape election results. According to him, cooperation between APC and PDP members helped stop the incumbent governor from installing a successor.

Wike Lists Tinubu’s Achievements in Abuja

To strengthen his case for Tinubu’s re-election, Wike challenged political leaders to identify any of the FCT’s six area councils that had not benefited from government projects.

He highlighted road construction, road rehabilitation, school renovations and improved public facilities. The minister also mentioned the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the appointment of a Head of Service from within the territory’s workforce.

Additionally, he cited the creation of the Women Affairs and Youth Development secretariats. According to Wike, these reforms have created more opportunities for civil servants and improved participation in governance.

Wike Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Wike also defended Tinubu’s economic policies despite the hardship many Nigerians face. He argued that major economic changes require difficult decisions and may not produce immediate results.

“Changing the economy of a country is not like a prayer,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister expressed support for the proposed establishment of state police. He described the move as an important step towards tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.

Wike believes Tinubu’s policies and projects will help attract more support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
