23-Year-Old Man Arrested After Plotting Kidnap of His 16-Year-Old Girlfriend For N50m Ransom
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command arrested a young suspect in Asaba. The arrest followed a 23-year-old man arrested after plotting kidnap of his 16-year-old girlfriend for N50m ransom scheme.
Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed details of the crime during a recent briefing. He revealed that the suspect orchestrated the abduction to extort money from the victim’s family.
Initially, the suspect took the teenager to a secluded location. Afterwards, he contacted her parents to demand a N50 million ransom.
However, police detectives investigated the reported disappearance. They uncovered discrepancies in the suspect’s statements and established his direct involvement.
Police Uncover Ransom Scheme After Suspect Reports Disappearance
The suspect brought the 16-year-old minor to a hidden site in Asaba. Subsequently, he contacted her parents with the ransom demand.
Furthermore, he pretended to help the worried family search for the missing teenager. He hoped this act would divert suspicion away from himself.
However, police operatives tracked communication channels effectively. Intelligence gathering exposed digital links connecting the suspect directly to the ransom calls.
Consequently, officers moved in swiftly. They rescued the minor safely before any ransom was paid.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to staging the abduction. He admitted targeting the victim’s family for financial gain.
Delta Police Intensify Investigation and Prosecution Efforts
Following the arrest, SP Bright Edafe stated that law enforcement will ensure full prosecution. This action aims to deter youths from engaging in get-rich-quick crimes.
In addition, command authorities advised parents to monitor their children’s relationships closely. They stressed the importance of tracking social interactions.
“Our operatives acted promptly upon receiving credible intelligence,” SP Edafe stated. “We prevented the suspect from executing the extortion.”
Meanwhile, police detectives are investigating possible accomplices. They want to determine if others helped hide the minor.
Finally, the Delta State Police Command confirmed that the 23-year-old suspect remains in custody. He will face court charges soon.
