Nigeria’s Problems Stem from Politicians, Not Poverty – Peter Obi

Obi attended the Thanksgiving service for Oyo State’s 50th anniversary. The event took place at St Peter’s Cathedral in Aremo, Ibadan. He shared his views on national challenges during the service.

Furthermore, Obi praised the progress in Ibadan. He described the city as historic and full of hope. The Labour Party presidential candidate from 2023 noted positive changes under Governor Seyi Makinde.

Criticism of Political Class

Obi blamed politicians for Nigeria’s troubles. He stated that leaders mismanaged the country’s resources. This led to ongoing problems across the nation.

In addition, Obi emphasized Nigeria’s wealth. He said, “Nigeria is not a poor country, it is poorly governed.” This remark drew attention to governance failures. Moreover Obi admitted the role of politicians. He declared, “We are the problem of Nigeria.” His words called for self-reflection among leaders.

Call for Prayers and Better Governance

Obi urged Nigerians to pray for politicians. He requested, “Please do remember us politicians in your prayers.” This plea aimed to inspire change in leadership.

Additionally Obi focused on public funds. He added, “Remember us in your prayers that God should touch our hearts to use public money for the public good.” He believed this action would improve Nigeria.

Obi commended Governor Makinde’s work. He said, “Ibadan has witnessed major upliftment under Governor Seyi Makinde.” This highlighted successful local governance.
