The National Examinations Council (NECO) released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results on Tuesday, showing strong performance in English and mathematics.
NECO registrar Ibrahim Wushishi announced the results in Minna, Niger state, saying students were tested in 16 subjects.
Over 95,000 Candidates Sat Exam
NECO recorded 96,979 registrations, including 51,823 males and 45,156 females.
A total of 95,160 candidates took the exam, comprising 50,785 males and 44,375 females.
Credit Passes Rise
Wushishi reported that 73,167 candidates earned credit passes or higher, representing 78.32 percent of 93,425 students.
Mathematics stood out, with 85,256 candidates—or 91.35 percent—scoring credit passes and above.
He added that 68,166 students, about 72 percent, earned five credits including English and mathematics. Meanwhile, 82,082 candidates, or 86 percent, achieved five credits in any subjects.
NECO Cracks Down on Malpractice
The registrar revealed that NECO sanctioned 9,016 candidates for examination malpractice, up by 2,856 from 2024.
The council also blacklisted five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo for aiding cheating.
In addition, NECO recommended four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano for de-recognition over mass malpractice.
Results Open Doors for Tertiary Admission
The SSCE results allow students to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria and abroad.
Wushishi called the results “another milestone” in NECO’s effort to provide credible assessments. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the education sector.
He added that states owe NECO less than N2 billion collectively.
The exam ran from November 26 to December 13, 2025, while marking took place from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
