Britney Spears has reportedly sold the rights to her music catalogue in a deal estimated at $200 million, according to US media.
The agreement includes iconic hits like “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again,” which defined pop music in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Celebrity news outlet TMZ shared the story, citing sources familiar with the deal. However, the exact amount wasn’t disclosed in the legal documents.
This deal puts Spears in the same league as Justin Bieber. Who sold his music catalogue in 2023 for a similar amount. At 44, Spears joins other big-name artists like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Shakira. And KISS, who have cashed in on their music rights in recent years.
US media reports say the rights purchased by Primary Wave. A music publisher known for managing works by Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, and Prince.
Owning publishing rights means receiving royalties whenever songs are streamed, played on the radio, sold, or used in movies and ads. With the rise of streaming, the music rights market has become a hot investment opportunity, offering steady income over time.
Major record labels like Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group have also been active in buying music catalogues. Alongside specialist firms like Recognition Music Group and Concord Music Publishing.
Spears became a global pop sensation in the late 1990s. But has stepped back from the music scene in recent years. In 2021, a US court ended her 13-year conservatorship. Which had given her father control over her finances—a situation she publicly called abusive.
