More than 1,000 people have stepped forward to help save Bijou Phillips’ life, but doctors have yet to find a match.
Sources close to the situation say over 1,000 potential donors came forward after news broke that Bijou urgently needs a second kidney transplant. Despite the overwhelming response, no compatible donor has been identified.
Bijou Phillips blood type is B negative, meaning she needs a donor with B negative, B positive, O negative, or O positive blood. Given the seriousness of her condition, more people are being encouraged to get tested.
She remains hospitalized and is undergoing dialysis, which sources describe as physically exhausting. While she is alert and able to communicate, her condition fluctuates, with moments of improvement followed by difficult periods. It’s expected she will stay in the hospital until a suitable donor is found.
Her family has been by her side throughout this ordeal. Her half-sisters, singer Chynna Phillips and actress Mackenzie Phillips, have visited her, along with her daughter, Fianna. When Fianna isn’t at the hospital, Bijou is cared for by other relatives and a close family friend.
Bijou Phillips is receiving treatment at UCLA under Dr. Anjay Rastogi at CORE Kidney. She previously underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, receiving a kidney from a friend. Unfortunately, that kidney failed due to complications, including the BK virus, which caused both cellular and antibody rejection.
Bijou was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of her life in the NICU on dialysis. She has battled kidney disease ever since.
