Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, praised President Bola Tinubu’s policies. He stated that these initiatives positively impacted Nigerians’ lives. Kalu made this remark during a public event in Abia State on February 15, 2026.
Kalu emphasized his belief in Tinubu’s agenda. “I believe in his policies and agenda,” Kalu said. He added that the president’s approach improved citizens’ welfare.
Additionally, Kalu linked his support to future elections. He declared that delivering Abia State for Tinubu in 2027 outweighed his personal ambitions. “The task of delivering the president here in my area is bigger than my personal political ambition,” Kalu explained. He described Tinubu as a father figure who treated him well.
Reported Impacts of the Agenda
Government officials highlighted positive outcomes from Tinubu’s reforms. They removed fuel subsidies and unified exchange rates. These actions stabilized the economy, according to reports. Inflation eased to 15 percent, and foreign reserves exceeded $42 billion.
Vice President Kashim Shettima noted that reforms restored global confidence in Nigeria. “The ongoing reforms of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are beginning to restore the confidence of the global community in Nigeria,” Shettima stated.
Tinubu himself assured Nigerians of prosperity. He declared 2026 as the Year of Social Development and Families. “We will spend with purpose, manage debt with discipline, and pursue growth that is broad based,” Tinubu promised in his budget presentation.
Criticisms and Challenges

However critics challenged these claims. They argued that policies caused widespread hunger. “We criticize him because his policies have led to widespread hunger and unfulfilled promises,” one social media post stated.
Amnesty International reported failures in human rights. The organization said Tinubu’s administration did not uphold rights after six months in office.
Meanwhile opposition groups accused the government of misinformation. They claimed reforms exacerbated economic struggles. Afenifere, a Yoruba group, slammed the policies for worsening Nigeria’s woes.
Outlook for 2027
Kalu urged Southeast residents to back Tinubu. He mentioned upcoming programs like unemployment benefits. “There are several other programmes in the pipeline, including the unemployment benefits scheme soon to be launched by Mr. President,” Kalu said.
Moreover, debates continued. Supporters defended the long-term gains. Critics demanded immediate relief. The discourse shaped Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of elections.
