A longtime ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Aslam Aliyu, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as the opposition’s lack of a clear development agenda.
Aliyu, who previously led the Project Atiku Abubakar (PAA) 2027, announced her decision in a statement issued in Abuja. She said she reached the decision after reflecting on Nigeria’s political future and the direction of the opposition.
Aliyu Explains Decision to Leave ADC
According to Aliyu, she remained loyal to Atiku’s political camp for nearly two decades.
However, she said the opposition had failed to present practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
“For almost two decades, I worked tirelessly within the political camp of H.E. Atiku Abubakar. Throughout that entire period, my loyalty never wavered.”
She added that her years of political involvement convinced her that the ADC lacks a meaningful blueprint capable of rescuing the country.
‘ADC Has No Concrete Rescue Plan’
Aliyu argued that the opposition focuses more on criticising the Federal Government than presenting workable alternatives.
Furthermore, she said Nigerians deserve issue-based politics built on practical solutions rather than constant attacks on the government.
“The ADC has no concrete plan for the country other than to criticise the government without bringing a single viable solution to the table.”
She urged patriotic Nigerians, especially youths and women, to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Expresses Confidence in Tinubu
Aliyu also declared her support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
She expressed confidence that the President would secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock Villa, as Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge as the winner of the presidential election come 2027, by the grace of Almighty Allah.”
Fresh Political Realignment Ahead of 2027
The defection comes as political parties continue to witness fresh realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Meanwhile, both the APC and the ADC have intensified efforts to attract new members as consultations and coalition talks continue across the country.
