Alignment Is Key”- Cubana Chiefpriest Reacts To Traditional Ruler’s Plea For Kanu’s Freedom

Socialite and entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chiefpriest, has praised a southeastern traditional ruler for urging President Bola Tinubu to either release Nnamdi Kanu from detention or deport him abroad.

The appeal made by Lawrence Agubuzu, the ruler of Ezema Olo Community in Enugu State, on Tuesday, February 17, during the 2026 National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

His Words

Speaking directly to President Tinubu, Agubuzu called for action to promote peace in the southeast. He said:
“The decision is yours. Release this man. If he cannot stay in Nigeria, send him back to Kenya or London, where he came from.”

Cubana Chiefpriest shared the moment on Instagram, applauding Agubuzu for addressing the issue at the summit. He emphasized that the message would reach the president, writing:
“Mr. President, we will do all we can, but please hear our plea. God bless your royal highness for speaking up in Abuja. If this message wasn’t deliver in person, some would say he sold out or took money.”

Chiefpriest also stressed the importance of the southeast supporting President Tinubu’s administration and potential re-election. He pointed out that Tinubu won the 2023 election without significant backing from the region, saying:
“Cooperation is crucial. We cannot oppose the government. Asiwaju will release MNK, and the traditional ruler has delivered that message. Let’s work together with Nigeria. Tinubu won the last election without the southeast, and he can win again. Supporting him now ensure our request heard.”

Additionally, Cubana Chiefpriest expressed hope that Tinubu might eventually transfer power to an Igbo leader after his term. He compared this possibility to Tinubu’s role in helping the late President Muhammadu Buhari, a Hausa man, and himself, a Yoruba man, rise to power.

“Hopefully, he will hand over power to an Igbo man. He made Buhari president, a Hausa man, and made himself president, a Yoruba man. What makes you think he won’t make an Igbo man president if we clearly support him for one more term? Igbo’s best chance is with Asiwaju. Just think about it. The man has the best political structure in the country to win elections. Let’s not waste our votes,” he added.
