Kogi youths presented a N100 million cheque to the All Progressives Congress on February 23, 2026. They aimed to cover the cost of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 election.
Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, led the delegation to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The group transferred the funds directly into the APC account.
APC Leadership Response
Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the APC, received the donation. He commended the youths for their initiative. Yilwatda stated, “The youths are not seeking appointments or favors. This is a clear demonstration of patriotism and political consciousness.”
Additionally he announced that the party foreclosed further purchases of forms for Tinubu, as the donation sufficed. Yilwatda thanked the group for their solidarity with the president.
Youths’ Motivation
The youths raised the funds to show support for Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing reforms. Moreover they highlighted appointments of young people to key positions under his administration.
Ododo noted that the move demonstrated confidence in Tinubu’s vision. He said, “We saw many young people appointed as CEOs in different capacities. That is why these youths have donated the sum of N100 million to Mr. President.”
Additional Commitments
Furthermore, the group pledged more funds if needed. Youth leader Mr. Mundi assured the party of extra reserves. Mundi stated, “I want to assure you that we already have more than N100 million reserved in case there is any increase above the amount already donated.” The donation underscored early mobilization for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Political Context
The APC emphasized inclusivity in its nomination process. Women received exemptions from form payments, while youths paid only for expression of interest. Ododo affirmed that Kogi State fully backed Tinubu for 2027.
