Apple overtakes Nvidia as the world’s most valuable company. Here’s why investors are shifting their AI focus and what it means for Big Tech.
Apple is back on top. The tech giant has overtaken Nvidia to become the world’s most valuable company. Apple is now worth about $4.88 trillion, while Nvidia stands at $4.86 trillion after its shares dropped 3.5%. Nvidia had held the number one spot since June 2025. However, investors are now looking beyond AI chipmakers. Instead, many believe Apple has a stronger long-term plan for making money from artificial intelligence.
Experts say the change is all about confidence.
“Apple was seen as a laggard in the AI race because it wasn’t spending to develop models, but now sentiment has changed,” said Toni Meadows of BRI Wealth Management.
She added that Apple is
“better positioned to monetize AI via services, ecosystem lock-in, and hardware upgrades.”
In simple terms, investors believe Apple can earn more from AI without spending as much as rivals. That has boosted trust in the company’s future profits.
Meanwhile, Apple has started making bigger AI moves. The company recently launched a much-improved Siri after months of delay. Many analysts also believe the huge amount of personal data on iPhones could help Apple build smarter AI features. Still, privacy remains a major challenge. Apple must find a safe way to use that data without breaking users’ trust. At the same time, CEO Tim Cook is preparing to hand over leadership to John Ternus in September. As a result, this comeback could shape how Cook’s final months are remembered.
Even so, Nvidia is far from losing relevance. Its AI chips still power many of today’s most advanced AI systems. Benjamin Hall of Segal Marco Advisors said,
“I don’t see any meaningful distinction. Nvidia likely to be a significant participant in whatever happens going forward.”
Besides Nvidia, memory chipmakers like Micron and SK Hynix are also attracting investors. This shows AI opportunities are spreading across the tech industry. While Apple leads today, the race for AI dominance is far from over.
