Shettima to ADC: You Want Electronic Transmission, Yet Your Online Register Has Fictitious Names

Vice President Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the party of hypocrisy over its demand for electronic transmission of election results.

Shettima spoke on Wednesday in Abuja. He addressed an interfaith breaking of fast for Ramadan and Lent at the State House.

The vice-president mocked the party’s online membership registration. He said the ADC portal attracted fake names and fictitious identities.

“The same alliance for democratic confusion that insists on electronic transmission of votes opened its portal for registration. It was overwhelmed by fake names and fictitious identities,” he said.

‘Lies Are Driving the Opposition’

Shettima also accused opposition parties of spreading falsehoods against the government.

He cited Winston Churchill to reinforce his point.

“As Winston Churchill said, truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies,” he said.

He added that misinformation now drives the opposition’s political strategy.

‘APC stronger than in 2023’

Shettima said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) now holds a stronger political position than it did in the 2023 elections.

He pointed to recent defections into the party from several states.

According to him, the governors joined the APC voluntarily.

“No one forced the governors of Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Adamawa, Taraba or Enugu to join the APC,” he said.

“They came on their own because they have seen the light.”
