NCDC Releases Week 9 Epidemiological Report

As reported by ALO360, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) recorded 469 confirmed cases of Lassa Fever and 109 deaths in 2026. This figure represents a case fatality ratio of 23.2 per cent. Consequently, the current fatality rate exceeds the 18.7 per cent recorded during the same period in 2025.

The NCDC released its Week 9 Epidemiological Report covering February 23 to March 1. According to the report, health authorities confirmed 65 new cases during that week. Furthermore, this number marked a decrease from the 77 cases reported in Week 8.

The NCDC stated in its report: “Sixty-five new confirmed cases were recorded in Week 9, a decline from the 77 cases reported in Week 8.” The agency added that the cumulative case fatality ratio for 2026 stood at 23.2 per cent. In addition, the NCDC noted that this rate remained higher than the 18.7 per cent recorded during the same period in 2025.

Health officials continued to monitor the outbreak across affected states. Meanwhile, the NCDC maintained its coordination with state epidemiologists and rapid response teams. The agency also sustained its laboratory testing capacity and contact tracing operations in endemic areas.

The NCDC continued to issue public health advisories throughout the reporting period. The agency urged citizens to maintain proper hygiene and store food in rodent-proof containers. Moreover, health workers received guidance on infection prevention and control measures. The NCDC also emphasized early presentation at health facilities as a critical factor in reducing mortality.
