Obi: I’m Not Sure of ADC Ticket, But I’m Fighting for It

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), says he is unsure of securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

He spoke in Enugu on Wednesday while addressing his supporters.

Obi said the ticket is not guaranteed, but insisted he remains in the race.

“Not that I’m sure of the ADC ticket, but I am fighting for it,” he said.

He thanked his supporters for standing by him despite the absence of immediate rewards.

The former Anambra state governor said many people expect material benefits in Nigeria’s political space, but his supporters have remained loyal without such incentives.

He said, “It is not easy to be in your position in Nigeria, where everybody is sharing something. For those of you who are still supporting me, even when there’s no return, I’m sincerely grateful.”

Obi described the challenges he faces, including criticism and political pressure, as an attempt to restrict his movements.

He said the government targets him and scrutinises his activities.

“The government is after you, attacking whatever you do, your business, everywhere you go,” he said.

He stressed that he refuses to back down and continues to visit places he is told to avoid.

“You cannot fear in doing the right thing because you know we’re doing the right thing,” he said.

Obi said his commitment drives him despite “disappointment, insults, and everything.”

He urged his supporters to stay committed, adding that their shared purpose continues to propel the movement forward.
