Edo Court Jails Man for 19400 Dollar Bitcoin Fraud

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission secured the conviction and sentence of Osamudiamen Philip Ikilo for fraud. As reported by ALO360 the agency prosecuted the case successfully in Edo State.

EFCC Arraigns Defendant

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Osamudiamen Philip Ikilo before Justice W.I. Aziegbemhin of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City. Consequently the court heard a one count charge of stealing.

Upon arraignment the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Therefore the case proceeded to full trial.

Charge Details Bitcoin Theft

The charge stated the exact offence. “That you Osamudiamen Philip Ikilo sometime in March 2024 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did steal Bitcoin worth the sum of 19400 Nineteen thousand four Hundred United States Dollars belonging to one Cynthia Imade Alile by fraudulently converting the said sum to your own use and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Edo State Law 2022 and punishable under Section 294 of the same Law” it read.

Prosecution Builds Strong Case

Prosecution counsel A. S. Bala-Ribah called two witnesses during the trial. Moreover he tendered documents which the court admitted in evidence.

In addition the defendant called two witnesses including himself. As a result both sides presented their arguments fully.

Judge Delivers Verdict

Justice W.I. Aziegbemhin delivered judgment on Monday March 23 2026. Consequently he found Osamudiamen Philip Ikilo guilty of the charge.

Therefore Justice W.I. Aziegbemhin sentenced him to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.
