Nasir Bala Aminu, popularly known as Ja’oji, resigned his position as Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Citizenship and Leadership on March 28, 2026. The resignation came ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline set by the president for political appointees seeking elective offices to step down.
Presidential Directive Triggers Resignation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had issued a directive requiring all political appointees with ambitions to contest the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31, 2026. The circular from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation affected ministers, special advisers, senior special assistants and other political appointees.
Furthermore, the directive aligned with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries.
Ja’oji Submits Resignation Letter
Ja’oji submitted his resignation letter to the presidency on Saturday. He had served in the position since August 2025 when President Tinubu appointed him to the role.
In his resignation letter, Ja’oji expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve. He described his appointment as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to youth development.
“My selection into key positions was driven by the president’s confidence in young Nigerians and his desire to empower them to contribute to national development,” Ja’oji stated.
He also commended the administration’s “Renewed Hope Initiative.” He described it as a major driver of policies and programmes aimed at national growth.
Additionally, Ja’oji pledged his continued loyalty and readiness to serve the country in any capacity if called upon by the president in future.
