The Confederation of African Football appointed Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu as its Acting General Secretary on Sunday. This appointment made Adamu the first Nigerian to occupy the position since CAF was established over seven decades ago.
The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed the appointment. The CAF Executive Committee proposed Adamu’s nomination, and the Congress ratified it during its meeting on 29 March at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
Adamu replaced Veron Mosengo-Omba, who resigned from the position on the same day. Mosengo-Omba served as CAF General Secretary since March 2021. The Swiss-Congolese official announced his departure in a statement published on social media.
“Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraint, leaving the CAF more prosperous than ever,” Mosengo-Omba stated.
