Nigeria has secured a major trade advantage as China grants zero-tariff access to all Nigerian exports starting May 1, 2026.
The announcement was made in Abuja by Yu Dunhai, following the signing of a new economic partnership framework between both countries. Under the agreement, all Nigerian goods exported to China will enjoy 100% duty-free entry—removing trade barriers and opening a massive market for local producers.
Boost for Trade and Export Growth
The policy is expected to significantly increase Nigeria’s export volume, particularly in agriculture, solid minerals, and manufactured goods.
With bilateral trade between Nigeria and China already exceeding $28 billion in 2025, the zero-tariff arrangement is seen as a strategic move to deepen economic ties and improve Nigeria’s trade balance.
Opportunities for Businesses and Investors
For Nigerian businesses, this development presents a rare opportunity to scale production and tap into one of the world’s largest consumer markets.
Exporters can now compete more effectively in China without the burden of import duties, potentially leading to increased revenue, job creation, and industrial growth within Nigeria.
Strengthening Economic Partnership
The agreement reflects growing cooperation between Nigeria and China in trade and economic development.
With zero tariffs in place, Nigeria is positioned to expand its export footprint globally—turning China into a key destination for its goods and a major driver of economic growth.
